The temperatures are warming up but it is not quite summer yet, so now is a great time to get out and about in Alamogordo! If you’re seeking something with a little culture, then we have some suggestions. If you’re seeking a way to get there, we can help too, with a brand new Honda or a great used car from Casa Honda. Here are some suggestions for your next cultural outing in Alamogordo.
Roadrunner Emporium Fine Arts Gallery
Located in the historic First National Bank Building, the Roadrunner Emporium Fine Arts Gallery offers an eclectic collection of fine art, crafts, and collectibles. Much of what’s available here is from local artists, so you’re supporting the El Paso arts community. If you’re thinking about becoming the next great El Paso artist, they offer a variety of classes on a wide range of artistic expression.
Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts
The Flickinger Center is one of Alamogordo’s biggest centers for the arts. It hosts both local talents and brings major traveling shows to town covering music, theater, comedy, dance, film, and literary critique. They offer tours and provide a venue for the Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo, which seeks to develop art and theater literacy for young people in town. The Flickinger Center is a non-profit, so your support of their shows helps keep the lights on.
Alamogordo Museum of History
Originally the Tularosa Basin Museum of History, the current Alamogordo Museum of History offers various historical displays that include pieces of art that depict the history of the town and the greater Tularosa Basin. Exhibits cover times both ancient and modern, one of the most interesting of which is the 47-star American flag, which was never official due to the practice of updating the flag in January of the year following a state’s admission. In 1912, two states, New Mexico and Arizona were added, separated by only about a month, so the official flag was updated the following year from 46 to 48 stars.
